'4 by 4' Challenge
'4 by 4' Challenge
The 4 by 4 Challenge is a running (or walking) challenge that puts physical fitness and psychological strength to the test. Its design means that no matter if participants are marathon runners or just want to test themselves with something a bit different, they can.
Even better, it’s a brilliant way to raise money for a good cause.
It's a simple concept that was pioneered by ultramarathon runner David Goggins. Depending on their level of ability, participants either run or walk 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours [48 miles in total] or in this case there is also the option of 24 hours [24 miles in total].
It’s challenging not just because of the distance but the mental strength it takes to complete without getting a proper rest. Participants are not running for the entire 24-48 hours but they’re not sleeping either!
All funds raised from tickets sales and the accompanying '4 by 4 Challenge' JustGiving campaign which participants can use to generate their own sponsorship funds, will go towards helping us achieve our £5000 target.
*Please do not exceed one place per order to ensure all participants have completed the necessary booking process individually.
*Please also be aware this is an over 18s only event.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are dogs permitted? A: Not on this occasion.
Q: Can children participate? A: This is a strictly 18 and over event.
Q: Can I transfer my place to someone else? A: Not for this event - we need to ensure that every participant has completed necessary waivers as part of the booking process.
Q: Is it a race? A: No, but we know that will spur some participants on so leg times will be recorded to calculate your accumulated time.
Q: Can I really walk the route? A. Yes, although that will impact on your rest time. Average walking speed is 3 miles/hr so at that pace you‘d complete legs in approximately 1hr 20mins.
Q: Where will I sleep? A: Designated areas of the gym floor will be available. It’ll be a case of first come, first served to find your preferred spot.
Q: Can I return home between legs? A: Yes, as long as you are at the start line by no later than 5 minutes before the next leg starts.
Q: What medical support will be provided? A: Our medical lead, a paramedic with experience of endurance challenges will be on site or on route for the duration of the 48 hour event. In addition, all staff and coaches on site are first aid trained and our site has access to a defibrillator.
Q: What happens if I get injured and can’t finish a leg? A: The course is designed so that there is a ‘bail out’ point half way round the course when the route swings back close to CrossFit DeltaFox. In addition, you‘ll be given the contact number of a member of our support team who will arrange pick up on the route if needed.
Q: How do I get sponsorship? A: Let people know you are taking on this epic challenge and direct your supporters to the JustGiving link. Every little really will help... set your own personal target and badger your nearest and dearest to help you get there.
Q: How will the money raised be spent? A: We can guarantee that every penny will fund our work in the community and in prison to help men, women and young people make a 180 degree change to their lives. Thank you so much for playing your part in making that happen.
