We’re excited to transfer the success we’ve had in our community programme, into prison. We are now running a 180 prison pilot project in HMP Lancaster.
WHY?
Improving prisoner health is key for public health. Prisons are an important setting to address health inequalities and to improve the health of a population who are underserved.
Those who are incarcerated are among the most vulnerable and excluded in society. There is an urgent need to address prison physical and mental health, providing prisoners with the opportunity to lead healthy lives

How …
In partnership with HMP Lancaster we are creating a CrossFit community behind the Prison gates. Men are being introduced to a new lifestyle; through CrossFit.
Men will get physically and mentally stronger, and supported to create a new ‘inside’ fitness community underpinned by unity and hope.
It will create a new transition pathway to the community. We will be working with the men 6 months prior to release, and supporting them transition to the 180-community programme so that they can sustain their CrossFit lifestyle. It’s through our community programme where we will help the men adjust to life-on-life terms, build further resilience, reducing the risks of reoffending and relapse. They will belong to a new community and have new positive social connections… thriving on the outside.
Through this pilot we also want to engineer bigger conversations to help drive positive change in the criminal justice system.
Overall Aims:
Get people active and stay active
Improve mental and emotional health
Reduce drug use, violence and self-harm in prison
Create purpose and plans for the future
Build new social connections through belonging to positive community
Reduce and stop reoffending on the outside
